In 1986, the citizens of Grosse Pointe Woods passed a Recreation Bond Proposal that included funds for a Community Center. In 1989, construction started and in January 1991, the Community Center was opened. The Center is located at 20025 Mack Plaza, adjoining City Hall. The Community Center is available for the cultural, educational, recreational and social activities of the residents of Grosse Pointe Woods. Programs and services are for all residents, regardless of varying mental and physical abilities. Please call for assistance in accessing recreational services.

Community Center Services

Room Rental

The Grosse Pointe Woods Community Center and historic Cook Schoolhouse are perfect for hosting that important meeting or festive family occasion. Rent the Park Room (capacity 80), Garden Room (capacity 50), or Lake Room (capacity 20), or combine all three for larger events. The Cook Schoolhouse can be rented for groups of up to 50 people. Rental prices are for five-hour blocks of time, including set-up and clean-up; renting for additional hours is possible. Tables, chairs and set-up are included in the price of the rental. Optional items to rent include coffee urns, linen table covers and a projection screen. Use of the Community Center kitchen is available for an additional fee when the Park Room is reserved. Alcohol can be served providing the application to do so has been approved by the Public Safety department and a $50 permit is obtained in advance.

A variety of leisure-time activities take place at the Community Center. They are publicized quarterly in the Update which is delivered to all residents during the months of February, May, August and November.

Day Trips

Grosse Pointe Woods Residents and their guests of all ages are welcome to sign up for our discounted group trips. Trips take place once a month, and are published in the Update. If possible, sign up early to ensure a spot on the trip. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start time of the trip in order to check in with the tour escort inside the Community Center and receive a nametag. Please contact the Community Center with any questions regarding day trips.
