Nixle Program Information

The City of Grosse Pointe Woods is now a Nixle Partner. As a partner we have the ability to send geographically targeted alerts and advisories directly to our residents by text message, email and over the web using Nixle's Municipal Wire service.
As a resident you can register with Nixle to receive trusted alerts and advisories from the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety. You can also send and receive information directly to and from your neighbors. Nixle-it and stay connected! Residents can register here:

The City of Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety has launched a new Community Notification Service called “Nixle” to provide communication with people who live, work, and visit our area. The system provides a quick, efficient, and secure way to get neighborhood-level information out to community members who subscribe to the system. Through www.nixle.com , the public safety department will be able to send text message (SMS) and e-mail alerts to subscribers in a specific area, down to .25 miles.
Examples of notifications that will be available are:
- A young child or adult with Alzheimer’s disease walks away from their home. The alert can include a picture of the child or vulnerable adult with a map identifying the area at which they were last seen.
- A public safety emergency that requires people to stay in or remain away from their homes. A Nixle alert can let residents with a registered address in the affected neighborhood know what’s happening, allowing residents to take a proactive role in their own safety
- Neighborhood Watch information and crime trends that the residents should be aware of in the area
- Snow Emergencies
- Traffic and Weather Alerts and Updates that pertain to the metro Detroit area
Through Nixle, we will deliver messages securely to citizens by e-mail and cell phone, supporting and expanding our community outreach efforts. The system will be most effective when we have large numbers of subscribers. Please spread the word about our use of the system. Nixle Informational updates will be disseminated from the City of Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety by e-mail and cell phone.
Nixle is a secure communications service. There is NO SPAM or advertising associated with Nixle messages. The system is available at no cost.
