2022 Water Main Improvement Program
The 2022 Water Main Improvement Program includes replacement of the water main on the north and south side of Vernier between Mack and the west city limit . The City of Grosse Pointe Woods has contracted with Fontana Construction Inc. to complete this program.
The new water main will be installed by a trenchless method known as pipe bursting. This technique minimizes the disturbance to existing lawns, driveways, sidewalk, and street. It involves bursting through the existing pipe with new HDPE pipe. During construction, the existing water main will not be in service. However, the contractor will create a temporary water main above ground to connect to the homes. Depending on the locations of existing service lines and existing valves, some driveway approaches, sidewalks and trees may require removal and replacement.
