Waste and Recycling

**Note that curbside leaf pick-up is on a different daily schedule than the rubbish yard waste pick-up.**

All rubbish, recycling bins, yard waste, and brush are to be set out for collection NO LATER than 7 a.m. on the day scheduled for collection and NO EARLIER than 5 p.m. the day before scheduled collection. Various types of trash should be placed next to each other at curbside. Different trucks pick up rubbish, recycling, yard waste and brush, at different times. Neatly placed trash at curbside will help ensure a trouble-free pick-up. The Rubbish Guidelines and Procedures and the Solid Waste Program Brochure are provided for your convenience.

All rubbish, recycling, and yard waste will be collected on a Monday-through-Thursday schedule. Friday pick-ups will occur only when there is a major holiday in the week, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Consequently, because Memorial Day, May 29, 2023, is a Monday, pick-up is delayed one day that week.

The schedule and boundaries for regular waste and recycling pick-up, are as follows:

  • Monday – All streets west of Mack Avenue
  • Tuesday – East of Mack Ave. from north city limits to Hollywood
  • Wednesday – East of Mack Ave. from Hawthorne to Renaud (including North and South)
  • Thursday – East of Mack Ave. from Oxford (including North and South) to south city limit

The Grosse Pointe Woods trash contractor, Green For Life (GFL), provided heavy-duty, wheeled trash and recycling containers to each residence in Grosse Pointe Woods.  A 64-gallon brown cart will be designated for “Waste Only,” and a similar green container labeled for “Recyclables.” Plastic garbage bags still will be required for placement in the waste container, however all recyclable materials remain loose. Should you need an additional cart, they can be purchased from GFL for $65.00 each. Please contact the GFL CUSTOMER CARE CENTER at (844)464-3587.

GFL Environmental Services handles collection of rubbish, compost, bundled brush and material for recycling. The Department of Public Works handles all unbundled brush pick-up and chipping.
