2023 Sewer Cleaning and Closed-Circuit Television Investigation Program

The City of Grosse Pointe Woods has awarded a project to clean and televise the sewer lines throughout the city. Through a selective bidding process, this contract was awarded to Corby Energy Services of Belleville, Michigan. Work on your street or easement will commence within 48 hours upon receipt of this Notice during the hours of 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Because a number of sewer manholes are located in rear yard easements, it may be necessary for the contractor to use some properties as an access to these manholes. If you are one of these yard owners, we ask your permission and cooperation so the contractor may expediently perform their tasks and move on.

The first step is the cleaning of the sewers with a high-pressure water jet using water from the fire hydrants. As a result of using the hydrants, the natural sediment in the lines is disturbed and may cause discoloration of the water. This does not in any way contaminate the water. To clear discolored water in your home, go to your laundry tub in your basement and turn on the cold water and let it run until the water becomes clear. If there is any discoloration DO NOT DO LAUNDRY. During work on the sewer some residents may or may not experience an odor coming from your drains or toilets. We ask that you keep toilet lids closed and if possible, place a towel between the lid and seat. To reduce the chance of odor please add water to all floor drains. After cleaning the lines, the sewers are televised to evaluate their condition.

Your cooperation during this work is appreciated. Questions should be directed to the City’s Consulting Engineer, Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick, Inc. at (586) 726-1234, or Corby Energy Services at (734) 547-9237.
